On Monday 5th of October, Amanda Feilding, Director of the Beckley Foundation was invited to debate Cannabis regulation on BBC Radio 5 Live. The debate took place as part of the build towards the discussion in parliament of an e-petition asking for cannabis regulation:

Make the production, sale and use of cannabis legal

Legalising cannabis could bring in £900m in taxes every year, save £400m on policing cannabis and create over 10,000 new jobs.

A substance that is safer than alcohol, and has many uses. It is believed to have been used by humans for over 4000 years, being made illegal in the UK in 1925.

Whilst the debate focussed mainly on mental health and not the full range of issues surrounding regulation of cannabis, the callers to the show were thoughtful and considered, leading to a measured debate around this often highly charged topic.
